Event Description:

The Working Ozark Women of the Ozark Chamber are pleased to invite the Working Women of the Nixa Chamber to a special combined luncheon at Bonniebrook, the Historic Home of Rose O'Neill and Museum of Her Work.

July's event is being sponsored by Christian County Headliner.

Bonniebrook historic homestead & museum is just 15 minutes south of the Ozark Chamber using Hwy 65.  The property's garden and grounds are as amazing as the art and history.   A catered lunch will be provided and program will include a tour of the home and museum.
Rose O'Neill was a lodestar for women in the arts. At age 19 she traveled to New York and was successfully published in the Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, and Ladies Home Companion, becoming one of the highest paid illustrators in America in 1914. In addition, Rose was an Artist & Sculptor, Author & Activist.   She was the original creator of the Kewpie doll cartoon strip,  often using the characters to address social issues of the time. in 1913 Rose patented a doll based on the Kewpie character and entered the world market for merchandising of the dolls and accessories to the Kewpie.   At the same time, Rose and her sister Callista worked diligently to support the suffragist movement, creating posters and marching in protest parades.  Her efforts helped women finally gain the right to vote in 1920.
